Receiving a whiplash injury, which is common if you’ve been in a car accident, can leave you with a wide range of types of pain, including muscle pain, nerve pain, and headaches. If you’re anxious to address the root cause of the injury, rather than just treat the symptoms with pain medication, the good news is that there are a number of health practitioners who can give you the results you desire. And, in many cases, you’ll find these practitioners working in the same health clinic, which will allow you to try one or more of these treatments with ease. Here are three forms of treatment to consider for this type of injury.

Chiropractic

Many patients experience favorable results for their whiplash injuries through the care of a chiropractor. In many whiplash injuries, the spine will have been pulled out of alignment. In turn, this new position can put pressure on the muscles, nerves, and ligaments, resulting in discomfort. By adjusting your spine, your chiropractor can alleviate the pressure and its associated pain. When you’re searching for the right chiropractor, you’ll often find that there are some chiropractors who specifically specialize in whiplash care.

Acupuncture

A different way to treat your whiplash pain is by seeing an acupuncture practitioner. If you haven’t experienced acupuncture in the past, there’s no need to be concerned — this treatment is extremely gentle and can be highly effective at reducing pain. You may have success dealing with your whiplash injury solely through the care of an acupuncturist, or you may wish to use this treatment as a complementary therapy to chiropractic adjustments.

Massage Therapy

The right massage therapist can also be highly valuable for reducing the pain that has resulted from a whiplash injury. In this type of injury, the muscles may be highly inflamed, resulting in tension and discomfort. By gently kneading these muscles to promote blood flow and reduce knots, your massage therapist can provide a dramatic reduction in the pain — and often in as little as one appointment.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is another useful therapy to which you can turn after a whiplash injury. Though physical manipulation of the affected area, as well as electric stimulation of the muscles that have been injured. Physical therapists will also teach you some exercises to strengthen the problem area, which can be valuable if your muscles have atrophied since the accident because you haven’t been able to exercise much.
